Our Team

  • Adam Bonham-Carter

    Principal Rigger

With a Masters degree in engineering and a background in climbing and sailing Adam bought the business in 2015, “retiring” from consulting in the mining industry. Adam is an experienced offshore sailor and arrived in Nelson in 2003 on his 43’ aluminium yacht Mighty Quinn with his family.

Adam says he loves working for himself and reckons he has the perfect job, saying that he enjoys working on boats as much as he enjoys sailing them.

  • Kim

    Office Manager

Originally from Scotland, Kim joined Adam soon after he bought Ropetek and over the years has worked “on the tools” including climbing and getting dirty as well as looking after all our administration needs.

Adam and Kim “tied the knot” in 2023 getting married at Founders Park with hordes of Scottish & Canadian family attending.

She currently manages the office and runs the associated chandlery.

  • Richy

    Rigger / Engineering Lead

Richy joined Ropetek in 2019 coming to us from working as the lead rigger at Hampidjan - Nelrig (another John Foulds company).

He also has a background as an experienced builder, completed training as a fitter/welder, has worked as a baker, is an accomplished chef, and fancies himself an amateur sommelier.

He is our engineering lead and a font of knowledge about all things mechanical related to boats.

  • Dave

    Rigger

Dave is an experienced builder and a keen sailor, living on board his yacht Convella, a 40’ steel yacht that was recently re-fit to an extremely high standard as an offshore adventure boat by Warren Connolly.

Dave’s partner Chips is from Indonesia and they have strong ties with family and a property there.

Dave brings his previous practical background, experience as an an offshore sailor and is fast becoming a talented rigger.

  • Noa

    Rigger

Noa is originally Belgium arriving in NZ after several years in Scotland where she “got the sailing bug” achieving multiple qualifications including her RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (commercially endorsed).

She completed a degree in 2023 in International Relations, during which time she accumulated over 10,000 offshore mile sailing for work and pleasure including yacht charter crew & skipper, delivery crew & skipper, and instructing.

Noa moved to NZ and joined Ropetek to further advance her professional sailing career and is fast becoming an essential part of the Ropetek team.

  • Splice

    Ship’s Dog

Splice is a fixture at the chandlery and if you see Kim, she is seldom far behind.
